Rear 1G AWD Camber Correction Kit Installation Instructions These instructions will aid you through the installation process of the DME camber correction kit. Keep in mind; this can be a difficult task if things don’t go right, such as bolts being frozen, stripped, etc. NOTE:Installation requires that the control arm sleeve is kept intact. If you have previously installed an Energy Suspension Kit, you will need to get new sleeves to install this Camber Correction Kit.
Step #1: Lift rear of vehicle up and support with safety stands. remove both of the rear tires.
Step #2: Remove factory upper camber adjustment bolts. Some tips for removing stubborn bolts: *If bolt does not free easily from the bushing, follow these steps: · Soak the bolt and bushing area in a quality penetrating fluid. · Use a hammer or pneumatic hammer to remove bolt · The best method we have found is to pry between the control arm and the mount while using an air hammer to pound on the bolt · See the photo below
Step #3: Remove upper ball joint from spindle. Note: See illustration below.
*The use of a pickle fork may cause damage to your ball joint boots leading to premature failure.
Step #4: Now that you have removed the control arm from the vehicle, you need to remove the factory bushing. This is done by heating the end of the control arm until the bushing falls out. This process is shown in the following picture.
· You want to evenly heat the metal until the bushing practically falls out, as seen starting to happen in the picture. · You want to avoid starting the rubber on fire and concentrate on heating the metal around it. · Once you get the bushing to fall out, allow the control arm to cool. · Clean out the inside of the control arm end with some sand paper, wire brush, or similar. *Disclaimer: DME LLC assumes no responsibility to damage due to fire or any other practices outlined in this installation guide.
Step #5: With the inside of the hole cleaned out, you may now install your new DME camber kit. · First insert the blue polyurethane bushings into both sides of the control arm (Into the sleeve) · Apply lubricant to the inside surface of the bushings. Lubricants such as graphite or lithium grease work well. · The eccentric should press in with firm hand pressure. If it will not go in with firm hand pressure, you must remove some material from the blue bushings until they allow proper installation of the eccentric. This is to prevent the eccentric from binding and possibly causing changes in camber. This is easiest to accomplish with a die grinder or similar tool. · We recommend for all applications that the eccentric be aligned as show in the picture below. This will give you factory camber adjustability when lowered up to 2” or more.
Step #6: Now that you have the camber kit installed in the control arm, it is time to reinstall the arm into the vehicle. We recommend applying some anti-seize lubricant to the factory camber adjustment bolt or replacing it if it was damaged during removal. The torque specs are listed below.
Camber adjustment bolt: 101-116 ft-lbs. Ball joint nut: 43-52 ft-lbs.
*If the vehicle is used for racing, you may adjust the camber easily now by using the factory camber bolts to suit your racing needs. If you have a street driven vehicle, a wheel alignment is in need for proper suspension operation.
